This project presents an IoT-based smart dustbin monitoring system designed to improve waste management efficiency.
This project presents an IoT-based smart dustbin monitoring system designed to improve waste management efficiency. The system uses a NodeMCU microcontroller as the central unit, which collects data from an ultrasonic sensor to measure the fill level of the dustbin. When the garbage level reaches a predefined threshold (dustbin full condition), the system automatically sends an email alert to the concerned authorities for timely waste collection. The data can also be monitored on the ThingSpeak cloud platform for real-time tracking and analysis. A buzzer is activated through a transistor driver to provide a local alert, and the status is displayed on an LCD using I2C communication. The system operates on a regulated power supply, ensuring stable performance. This solution helps maintain cleanliness, prevents overflow of waste, and supports smart city initiatives.
The objectives of the project include:- To design and develop an IoT-based smart dustbin monitoring system
- To measure the garbage level using an ultrasonic sensor
- To detect when the dustbin is full automatically
- To send email alerts to concerned authorities when the bin is full
- To display real-time dustbin status on an LCD using I2C
