The AI and Machine Learning Based Product Label and Text Reading System is an intelligent assistive device designed to recognize and read printed text from product labels using image processing and machine learning techniques. The system is built around a Raspberry Pi and a Pi Camera, which captures images of product labels, packaging, and printed documents. The captured image is processed using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and machine learning algorithms to detect and extract the text accurately. Once the text is recognized, the Raspberry Pi converts it into speech using a Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine and delivers the audio output through a headset, enabling users, especially visually impaired individuals, to identify products and access important information independently. The system can read product names, manufacturing dates, expiry dates, prices, ingredients, and other label details in real time. Machine learning techniques improve text detection accuracy under different lighting conditions and label orientations. The system is powered through a standard power adapter, making it portable and easy to deploy in supermarkets, pharmacies, libraries, and homes. This project provides a low-cost, user-friendly, and efficient solution for automated text recognition and voice assistance, enhancing accessibility and convenience for users.    

The objectives of the project are:  

  To capture product label images using a Pi Camera connected to a Raspberry Pi.

  To detect and recognize printed text from product labels using OCR and Machine Learning techniques.

  To convert recognized text into speech using a Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine.

  To provide audio output through a headset for easy listening and accessibility.

  To assist visually impaired users in identifying products and reading label information independently.

  To extract important product details such as product name, price, manufacturing date, expiry date, and ingredients.

  To improve text recognition accuracy under different lighting conditions and label orientations using AI algorithms.

  To develop a low-cost, portable, and user-friendly system for real-time product label reading and voice assistance.
