The project aims to design a robotic system that can be monitored and controlled remotely. The robot switches ON a UV lamp that emits ultraviolet rays to sanitize the surroundings effectively. Ultraviolet-C (UV-C) radiation is highly useful for disinfection, especially during the outbreak of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). Since vaccines and preventive measures are essential for safety, sanitizing surroundings helps reduce the spread of infection caused by aerosols released from infected persons through coughing or sneezing.
To overcome these challenges, a Raspberry Pi 3 based sanitization robot with a UV lamp has been developed. This is an Internet of Things (IoT) based project that uses Raspberry Pi 3, Pi Camera, sanitizer module, UV lamp, relay driver, two DC motors, L293D motor driver, and a robotic chassis to build the robotic vehicle. A Pi Camera is mounted on the robot to provide live video streaming of the surroundings. The robot can be controlled remotely through a web browser over the internet.
The Pi Camera captures live video data and sends it to a specific IP address through the internet. The user can monitor the live streaming on a mobile phone or computer and control the movement of the robot through a webpage. The sanitizer and UV lamp can also be controlled remotely using the same web application. The relay module acts as a switch to turn the sanitizer and UV lamp ON and OFF.
A 12V, 2Ah battery and a power bank are used to provide power supply to the robotic system and Raspberry Pi 3. The Raspberry Pi 3 acts as the main controlling unit of the project.
The robot also includes a speaker connected to the 3.5 mm audio jack of the Raspberry Pi to provide voice alerts and reminders to patients regarding hand sanitization and medicine schedules. In this project, the eSpeak software is used for generating voice alerts.
