The main aim of this project is to provide an intelligent Traffic Signal Management System for emergency ambulance clearance using LoRa communication and a Digital Compass HMC5883L. In heavy traffic conditions, ambulances often face delays in reaching hospitals due to traffic congestion. To overcome this problem, the proposed system automatically controls traffic signals and provides a clear path for ambulances during emergency situations.
The system consists of two sections: an ambulance unit and a traffic signal control unit. The ambulance section uses an Arduino UNO, LoRa module, Digital Compass HMC5883L, switch button, rechargeable battery, and LCD display. When the emergency button is pressed inside the ambulance, the LoRa module transmits an emergency signal along with the ambulance direction obtained from the digital compass sensor. The traffic control section receives this signal through another LoRa module connected to a PIC microcontroller. Based on the received direction data, the corresponding traffic signal is turned green while the remaining signals remain red, allowing the ambulance to pass without delay. Additionally, to enhance safety and awareness, a buzzer is included in the system. During an emergency trigger event, the buzzer provides an audible alert to notify nearby drivers and pedestrians that an emergency vehicle is approaching, prompting them to give way. Â The system provides fast communication, efficient traffic control, and improved emergency response time.
