The system uses a Raspberry Pi as the main controller along with a Pi Camera to continuously monitor the driver’s facial movements and eye blinking patterns for detecting drowsiness. An alcohol sensing module is also integrated to identify the presence of alcohol from the driver.

The “Driver Drowsiness and Alcohol Detection with Ignition Control System” is an intelligent vehicle safety system designed to reduce road accidents caused by driver fatigue and alcohol consumption. The system uses a Raspberry Pi as the main controller along with a Pi Camera to continuously monitor the driver’s facial movements and eye blinking patterns for detecting drowsiness. An alcohol sensing module is also integrated to identify the presence of alcohol from the driver. Whenever drowsiness or alcohol consumption is detected, the system immediately activates safety measures to prevent accidents. The vehicle ignition is automatically stopped through a relay control mechanism, the RED LED indicator is turned ON to indicate danger, and a buzzer alert is activated to warn the driver and nearby passengers. Under normal conditions, the GREEN LED remains ON indicating safe driving status. The regulated power supply ensures stable operation of all components, while the SD card stores the required software and monitoring data. This system provides a reliable, low-cost, and real-time solution for improving road safety by preventing intoxicated and drowsy driving, thereby reducing the chances of accidents and protecting human lives.    

Objectives:

  To detect driver drowsiness using a Pi Camera.

  To detect alcohol consumption by the driver.

  To automatically stop vehicle ignition during unsafe conditions.

  To provide warning alerts using a buzzer.

  To indicate vehicle status using RED and GREEN LEDs.

  To improve road safety and reduce accidents caused by fatigue and alcohol consumption.
