In India most of the people are living in rural area where national grid transmission line is not reached till now. The existing electric grids are not capable of supplying the electricity need to those poor people. So renewable energy sources ( photo voltaic panels and wind generators) are the best option. Solar power have the advantage of being less maintenance and pollution free but their main drawbacks is high fabrication cost, low energy conversion efficiency. Since solar panels still have relatively low conversion efficiency, the overall system cost can be reduced using an efficient solar charge controller which helps to monitoring the voltage from battery for charging. This project makes a use of PIC microcontroller which uses to monitor voltage of battery and displays the same data on LCD. microcontroller will continuously read the voltage ratings of battery and based on that it will connect/disconnect the supply through relay. Here relay works as a switch to on/off the power supply. To perform this task using microcontroller, is loaded with an intelligent program written in embedded ‘C’ language.

The main features of this project are:
  1. Continuous monitoring voltage from battery.
  2. Display the voltage ratings on LCD module.
  3. Automatic power connecting/disconnecting system based on battery ratings using Relay.
  4. To achieve this task using PIC microcontroller.

The major building blocks of this project are:
  • PIC Microcontroller.
  • Solar cell/plate.
  • Charge controller.
  • Rechargeable battery.
  • Voltage sensor.
  • Relay.
  • LCD display.

Software’s used:
  • Embedded C language.
  • PIC C Compiler for dumping the code into the microcontroller.
  • Express SCH for Circuit design.
