The project aims to design an intelligent system that helps in preventing road accidents by alerting the driver and automatically controlling the speed of a vehicle when an obstacle is detected. Road accidents are continuously increasing in day-to-day life due to various reasons, including vehicle chasing and collisions. To minimize such accidents, precautionary methods are implemented using ultrasonic sensors. These sensors generate high-frequency sound waves and measure the time interval between sending the signal and receiving the echo to calculate the distance of an object. In this project, two ultrasonic sensors are mounted on the front and rear sides of the vehicle to detect obstacles. When an obstacle is detected, the distance is displayed on an LCD screen. If the obstacle is within 30 cm, the system automatically stops the vehicle and activates a buzzer to alert the user. A relay is used to cut off the power supply to the motor, ensuring immediate stoppage. The vehicle's movement is controlled by DC motors interfaced with an L293D motor driver. The entire system is controlled by a microcontroller, which continuously receives distance data from the ultrasonic sensors. When the detected distance is less than the predefined threshold, the microcontroller triggers the alarm and automatically controls the vehicle’s speed. The distance readings are continuously monitored and displayed on the LCD screen. The microcontroller is programmed using embedded C language to perform these intelligent tasks efficiently.
