HVS-2789. Face Mask Detection System using Raspberry pi with Gate Controlling

Therefore, we are going to build a Raspberry Pi-based face mask detector which detects whether the person is wearing a mask or not.

Recently India along with almost all big and small countries stated emergency conditions for the novel corona virus (COVID-19). Practically, the whole population of the world is under lockdown and people are maintaining social distances as suggested by the World Health Organization (WHO). This deadly virus has infected tens of lakhs individuals and continues to spread globally. According to recent reports, the next few months are life-threatening in the current efforts to hold COVID-19 spread among communities. Across India, persons are losing jobs, working from home, being hospitalized and even vanishing life as a result of COVID-19 infections. The epidemic placed great stress on medico professionals. Hospitals are experiencing higher than normal patient loads and treating all patients quickly and effectively now becomes a very challenging task. Due to fear, country-wise lockdown, and suspended OPDs in Hospitals regular patients are also not able to approach doctors. Since there is no vaccine yet available in the market, the only way to be safe is by taking precautions. It is suggested to wear a face mask and maintain social distancing to avoid coming in contact with novel corona virus. Studies have proven that masks help in slowing down the spread of infection as the virus mainly gets transmitted with the aerosols which come out of an infected person's nose or mouth while coughing or sneezing. Therefore, we are going to build a Raspberry Pi-based face mask detector which detects whether the person is wearing a mask or not. For implementation of mask detection using an OpenCV and camera interfaced to the Raspberry Pi. When the user switches on the kit then pi camera capture the images, in case that image does not contain mouth and nose, it means that person wears mask properly and corresponding door will be opened to let the person in along with GREEN LED. However, if the person not wear a mask, then raspberry pi3 processor generates signal to lock the door and also gives the audible alerts through buzzer and RED LED. The main controlling device of the project is Raspberry pi3 processor. Here we are using DC motor as door. The SD card is a key part of the Raspberry Pi; it provides the initial storage for the Operating System and files. The status of the project will be displays on LCD module. Here we are using two LEDs for working indication of the project.            

Objectives:  
  • To develop a Raspberry Pi 3 based automatic safety screening system.
  • To detect face masks using Pi Camera and OpenCV.
  • To automatically control the entrance door using a DC motor.
  • To provide an audio alert using a buzzer during no mak conditions.
  • To display temperature and system status on an LCD.
  • To indicate system operation using LEDs.
  • To provide a contactless and automatic safety system for indoor areas.
             

The main building blocks of the project are:  
  • Power Supply.
  • Raspberry pi.
  • Pi Camera module.
  • DC motor with L293d driver.
  • Buzzer.
  • GREEN LEDs.
  • LCD display.

  • Raspbian OS.
  • Python language.
  • Express SCH for Circuit design.
