The main aim of the project is to develop an automated parking system using a Raspberry Pi and Zigbee wireless communication technology. The system enables vehicles to be parked efficiently on multiple levels, allowing maximum vehicles to be accommodated in minimum space. Traditional parking systems do not provide intelligent monitoring, and drivers often waste time searching for available parking slots. This may lead to traffic congestion and unnecessary fuel consumption, especially when multiple parking lanes are available. The proposed system identifies the nearest available parking level and assigns a suitable parking slot to the vehicle, thereby reducing parking time, fuel consumption, and carbon emissions. The system can be implemented at locations such as shopping malls, amusement parks, offices, and technology parks.
The proposed system also follows a pay-as-you-go parking model. When a vehicle enters the parking area, its number plate is captured using a camera, and the vehicle details along with the entry time are stored in a database. During exit, the stored information is retrieved and the parking fee is automatically calculated based on the duration of parking. After payment, the vehicle is allowed to exit. Since the system performs parking management, vehicle identification, and billing automatically, the requirement for manual operation is reduced, resulting in lower operating and maintenance costs. The Raspberry Pi acts as the main controller of the system and communicates with the required input and output modules. It uses an SD card for booting and data storage and runs on a Linux-based operating system to perform the required parking management and control operations.
