The main aim of this project is to develop a speed-breaker-based power generation and automatic street-light control system using a rotor and rack-and-pinion mechanism. When a vehicle passes over the speed breaker, the downward movement of the speed-breaker plate is transferred to the rotor and rack-and-pinion mechanism. This mechanism converts the linear motion into rotary motion, which drives a dynamo to generate electrical energy. The generated electricity is supplied to a charging circuit and stored in a rechargeable battery for later use.
The stored electrical energy is used to operate the street lights. An LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) senses the surrounding light intensity and provides an output to a comparator. The comparator continuously compares the LDR output with a preset reference level to identify day and night conditions. Based on the comparator output, a relay automatically switches the street lights ON during night-time and OFF during daytime. The proposed system therefore combines energy generation from vehicle movement with automatic street-light control, providing a simple and efficient method for utilizing the mechanical energy produced by vehicles passing over speed breakers.
