The Helmet Detection System for Bike Riders is designed to identify whether a motorcycle rider is wearing a helmet or not using image processing and machine learning techniques. The proposed system uses MATLAB and Python software for helmet detection and an Arduino microcontroller to control the output indications and display the detection status on an LCD. In this project, images are collected in JPEG format and classified into two categories: people wearing helmets and people not wearing helmets. The Python and MATLAB programs process the uploaded images and analyze the rider's appearance to identify helmet usage. Based on the detection result, the information is sent to the Arduino microcontroller. If the rider is wearing a helmet, the Arduino turns ON the green LED and displays the helmet detection status on the LCD. If the rider is not wearing a helmet, the Arduino turns ON the red LED, activates the buzzer, and displays a warning message on the LCD. The proposed system helps identify helmet usage accurately and provides visual and audio alerts for safety awareness. Overall, this project aims to promote road safety and encourage motorcycle riders to wear helmets to reduce the risk of head injuries during accidents.

The features of the project are:

  Detects whether a bike rider is wearing a helmet or not.

  Uses Python and MATLAB for image processing and helmet recognition.

  Classifies images into two categories: Helmet and No Helmet.

  Uses bounding boxes to highlight the detected helmet or rider's head.

  Uses JPEG images as input for detection.

  Displays the detection result on an LCD.

  Green LED glows when a helmet is detected.

  Red LED glows when a helmet is not detected.

  Activates a buzzer when the rider is not wearing a helmet.

  Uses an Arduino microcontroller to control the output devices.

  Provides real-time visual status indication for processed images or video frames.

  Helps improve road safety and promotes helmet usage.
