Purchasing and Shopping at big malls is becoming daily activity in metro cities. We can see big rush at these malls on holidays and weekends. This crowd becomes huge when there are special offers and discount. People purchase different items and put them in trolley. After total purchase one need to go to billing counter for payments. At billing counter, the cashier prepares the bill using bar code reader which is very time-consuming process and results in long queue at billing counter. Our aim is to develop the system which can be used in shopping malls to solve the problem mentioned above.   To implement this project we are using microcontroller, RFID, ALCD (16x2), wireless communication will be done by using ZIGBEE. An embedded system will be placed on trolleys in the mall. It will consist of RFID reader. All the items in the mall will be equipped with RFID tags. When person put any item in the trolley its code will be detected and the price of that item will be stored in memory. As we put the items the costs will get added to total. Thus, the billing will be done at the trolley itself. Item name and its cost will be displayed on LCD. For detecting different items RFID reader will be used. LCD used will be 16X2 alphanumeric displays. It will be used to display item names, item cost etc.   The Microcontroller is programmed using Embedded C language which provides effective environment for performing the task of the project. Express PCB software is extracted to design the circuit boards.

Objectives:
  1. To develop an RFID-based smart shopping trolley system for automated billing in shopping malls and supermarkets.
  2. To identify products automatically using RFID tags attached to each item.
  3. To calculate the price of each product and automatically update the total bill when items are added to the trolley.
  4. To display the product name, individual price, and total bill amount on a 16×2 alphanumeric LCD.
  5. To reduce the time required for billing and minimize long queues at checkout counters.
  6. To use a microcontroller programmed in Embedded C to process RFID data and perform billing operations.
  7. To implement Zigbee wireless communication for transferring shopping and billing information to the central billing system.
  8. To improve the convenience, speed, and efficiency of the shopping process.
  9. To design the required circuit board using Express PCB software.
  10. To develop a cost-effective and user-friendly automated shopping solution for modern retail stores.
