The project aims at developing a system which deals with the utilization of solar photovoltaic (SPV) energy in the PMDC driven water pump. A DC-DC boost converter, used as an intermediate power conditioning unit plays a vital role in efficiency enhancement of SPV array and soft starting of the PMDC motor with proper control. Nowadays solar energy is the best renewable energy resources when compared to the conventional energy resources. The operation of the solar powered pumps is cheaper to run, lower maintenance cost and lower operation. This project deals with the operation of the Boost (DC-DC) converter in solar PV array fed water pumping system as an intermediate DC-DC converter between the solar PV array and soft starting of PMDC motor. Among the several types of DC-DC converters, a Boost converter is selected and it is used to extract the maximum power which is available from the SPV array and PMDC motor.   The project makes use of solar panel, boost converter, PIC Microcontroller, relay, PMDC motor and the centrifugal system for pumping water. When the boost converter boosts up the obtained voltage from the solar panel up to the amount that is enough to charge the Battery and drive the PMDC motor, the PIC microcontroller switches ON the relay in turn switching ON the PMDC motor. Since the shaft of the PMDC motor is interfaced to the Centrifugal system, the water gets pumped as and when the PMDC motor is switched ON. We can see the voltage values from the solar panel and the boost converter on the LCD.

Features of this project:
  1. Storing solar energy.
  2. Usage of solar energy for switching the PMDC Motor ON.
  3. Boosting the voltage from Solar panel
  4. Pumps the water through the centrifugal system that is interfaced to the PMDC motor.
