The main aim of the project is to develop a Solar Operated Refrigerator Cum Oven using a solar panel and a thermoelectric Peltier plate. The system can operate using solar energy, providing an energy-efficient and cost-effective solution for both cooling and heating applications.
In this project, a microcontroller, LCD display, relay, temperature sensor, and selection switch are used to control and monitor the system. The temperature value is continuously measured and displayed on the LCD, along with the operating status of the system. The Peltier plate works based on the Peltier effect. When DC power is applied, heat is absorbed from one side of the Peltier plate, producing a cooling effect, while the opposite side becomes hot.
The Peltier plate is connected through relays, and a selection switch is provided to change the polarity of the DC supply to the Peltier plate. By changing the polarity, the same Peltier plate can provide both cooling and heating modes, making the system function as a refrigerator and oven. An exhaust/cooling fan is used to dissipate heat from the hot side of the Peltier plate and improve the overall thermal performance.
The proposed system therefore provides solar-powered operation, temperature monitoring, automatic control, cooling and heating modes, LCD temperature display, and polarity-based Peltier operation. It can be useful for small-scale food storage, beverage cooling, and heating applications in areas where conventional electrical power is limited.
