The main aim of this project is to provide an efficient solution for monitoring and control of dam water gates with automatic gate control using DC motors. This system also enables the remote alerting system using voice messages through FM transmission.
Automated sensors and remote communication aim at building a highly automated dam gates controlling system by making use of sensors like water level indicators, gate status monitoring on LCD, gate control using DC motor and feedback generating system etc. The objective of this project is fulfilled by employing a water level detection sensor for water level indication, gate position monitoring and control system, and remote communicating using FM radio signals along with voice module interfaced with microcontroller. The sensors altogether form the input module of the project. The project makes use of an ARM-7 LPC2148 microcontroller, which acts as a central controlling unit. This module is capable of communicating with the input and the output modules. The output module is formed by the motors used for closing and opening of gates and also the voice module along with FM transmission circuitry which is used for voice message alerts to the mobile phones with the remotely located authorities. The micro controller reads the sensor inputs continuously.
ARM7 processor is RISC microprocessor architecture from Advanced RISC Machines Ltd. The ARM7 architecture is made up of a core CPU plus a range of system peripherals which can be added to a CPU core to give a complete system on achip. It offers several architectural extensions which address specific market needs, encompassing fast multiply and innovative embedded ICE support.
FM radio stations operate on frequencies between 88 and 108 MHz. The variable capacitor and your self-made inductor constitute a parallel LC circuit. It is also called a tank circuit and will vibrate at a resonant frequency which will be picked up your pocket FM radio. The transmitting range is dependent upon a number of variables. It uses Single wire or dipole antenna with supply voltage. The transmitter is constructed on a single-sided printed circuit board (PCB) with a silk screen overlay on top to aid in component placement. This FM Transmitter has an RF stage in its output to amplify the modulated signal.
The major ambition of this system is to provide remotely a caution alarming message using FM transmission-based voice alerts through voice module which is interfaced with the microcontroller. The system operates the dam gates using DC motors automatically receive the feed back in overflow situations using water level sensors. The system consists of a Voice module, FM transmission circuitry, Water level sensors, LCD, buzzer. The maintainer can also know the information about the leakage of water from the closed or about overflow of water through the same voice module and also the system horns caution buzzer alarm at dam when gates are opened.
