In this project we are developing a new methodology in Braille systems in order to read messages for blind people.

 Braille is a tactile writing system used by the blind and the visually impaired. It is traditionally written with embossed paper. They can write Braille with the original slate and stylus or type it on a Braille writer, such as a portable Braille note-taker, or on a computer that prints with a Braille embosser. Braille characters are small rectangular blocks called cells that contain tiny palpable bumps called raised dots. The number and arrangement of these dots distinguish one character   from another. Since the various Braille alphabets originated as transcription codes of printed writing systems, the mappings (sets of character designations) vary from language to language. In this project we are developing a new methodology in Braille systems in order to read messages for blind people. Here we are using new GSM modem to receive messages the content/letters of the messages can be read by blind people easily just by feelings the vibration of vibrators using in this project and the same we are going to display on LCD as well. Alert vibrator is working as messages alert and buzzer is for hearing alert. The basic grid of a Braille alphabet character consists of six vibrators, positioned like the figure six on a die, in two parallel vertical lines of three dots each. From the six vibrators that make up the basic grid, 64 different signs can be created. Reading direction of Braille is the same as for regular type and the rules for hyphenation that apply for regular fonts also apply in Braille in un-contracted Braille, each individual letter of the alphabet, punctuation mark etc. is represented by its own Braille character(s).   This project uses regulated 5v, 500mA power supply. 7805, a three terminal voltage regulator is used for voltage regulation. Bridge type full wave rectifier is used to rectify the ac output of 230/12 step down transformer.

  • To design and develop a GSM-based Braille message reading system for visually impaired people.
  • To receive text messages through a GSM modem.
  • To convert received text characters into corresponding Braille vibration patterns.
  • To enable blind users to read messages through tactile vibration feedback.
  • To provide message alerts using a vibrator and a buzzer.
  • To display the received message on an LCD screen.
  • To develop a simple, portable, and low-cost assistive communication device.
  • To improve communication accessibility and independence for visually impaired users.
