The Street Light that Glows on Detecting Vehicle Movement is an energy-efficient automatic street lighting system designed to reduce unnecessary power consumption by illuminating street lights only when a vehicle is detected during nighttime. The system uses an LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) to determine ambient light conditions and an IR sensor to detect the presence or movement of vehicles on the road. The outputs of these sensors are compared with a reference voltage using a comparator circuit, which controls a transistor driver connected to the street light. During daylight, the LDR disables the system and the lights remain OFF. At night, when a vehicle passes in front of the IR sensor, the comparator activates the transistor and turns the street light ON. After the vehicle moves away, the light turns OFF automatically, thereby minimizing energy wastage. The system is simple, cost-effective, reliable, and suitable for roads, highways, parking areas, and smart city street lighting applications. By providing automatic illumination only when required, it improves energy efficiency, extends the lifespan of street lights, and reduces electricity costs while ensuring adequate visibility for vehicles during nighttime.
