The speaking microcontroller system for deaf and dumb individuals is designed to assist in effective communication by converting predefined inputs into audible speech. The system uses a Raspberry pi zero based platform with push buttons assigned to specific messages such as requesting water, help, or washroom access. When a button is pressed, the corresponding voice message is played through a speaker, enabling the user to convey basic needs easily. This low-cost and user-friendly system helps reduce communication barriers and improves interaction with society. In addition to the basic communication features, the system also includes an SOS emergency button for safety. When the SOS button is pressed, the microcontroller activates a GSM module and GPS module to automatically send an emergency alert message along with the user’s current location coordinates to a predefined mobile number. The status of the project will display on LCD. This feature ensures that caregivers or family members can be notified immediately in case of danger or emergency, thereby enhancing the safety and reliability of the system.

The main features of this project are:

  To develop a microcontroller-based communication system that helps deaf and dumb individuals express their basic needs easily.

  To provide predefined voice messages through push buttons so that users can communicate common requests such as water, help, or washroom.

  To convert button inputs into audible speech output using a voice module and speaker for clear communication with others.

  To design a simple, low-cost, and user-friendly device that can be easily used by individuals with speech and hearing disabilities.

  To integrate an SOS emergency button that can be used during dangerous or emergency situations.

  To send an emergency alert message along with the user’s current location to a predefined mobile number using GSM and GPS modules.

  To improve the safety, independence, and social interaction of deaf and dumb individuals through assistive technology.
