This project presents the design and implementation of an ultra-low-cost, mobile-based embedded system for multi-zone irrigation. The system allows users to control the irrigation process remotely via SMS (Short Message Service) through GSM technology.
The system utilizes a microcontroller connected to relay modules that control the on/off status of both the water motor and two solenoid valves. These valves enable independent control over different irrigation zones, ensuring water is distributed where and when its needed.
To enhance the system functionality, a soil moisture sensor is integrated into the design. This sensor helps automate irrigation by monitoring the soil moisture content in each zone. When the moisture level falls below a preset threshold, the system will activate the relevant solenoid valve and water motor. Once the optimal moisture level is reached, the system automatically switches off the water supply, preventing over-irrigation and promoting water conservation.
An LCD display is incorporated for real-time monitoring of system status, including soil moisture levels, motor operation, and solenoid valve activity for each zone. This simple, cost-effective solution offers remote control of the irrigation system via SMS and ensures efficient water usage across multiple zones.
