The IoT-based Automatic Human Following Trolley with Smart Automatic Billing system presents an intelligent solution to enhance the shopping experience in retail environments. The proposed trolley is designed to automatically follow a human user by maintaining a safe distance using an ultrasonic sensor and IR sensors for direction detection and obstacle awareness. The trolley movement is controlled using DC motors driven by an L298 motor driver, with an Arduino Nano acting as the main controller for processing sensor data and controlling the overall system. An LCD display is integrated into the trolley to show real-time information such as product count and billing status.
For automatic billing, RFID technology is used, where each product is embedded with a unique RFID tag. When products are added to or removed from the trolley, the RFID reader detects the change and updates the bill accordingly. A buzzer alert provides instant audio feedback whenever a product is added or removed, ensuring user awareness. Billing data is uploaded in real time to a web-based dashboard using the ESP8266 Wi-Fi module.
The web dashboard displays detailed billing information including product name, quantity, individual product cost, discount percentage, discount amount, final price of each product, and the total bill amount. This system significantly reduces human effort, minimizes billing errors, and eliminates long checkout queues. The proposed smart trolley offers a reliable, efficient, and user-friendly solution for modern supermarkets and smart retail environments.
