Alcohol consumption by drivers is one of the primary causes of road accidents, often resulting in loss of life and property. To address this issue, this project proposes an Arduino Nano based Alcohol Monitoring and Vehicle Immobilization System that detects alcohol levels in the driver’s breath and prevents unsafe driving. The system employs an Arduino Nano microcontroller integrated with an MQ-3 alcohol sensor to monitor alcohol concentration. If the alcohol level exceeds the preset threshold, the system immediately immobilizes the vehicle’s ignition mechanism, ensuring that the driver cannot operate the vehicle while under the influence. In addition, a GPS module is used to capture the vehicle’s real-time location, while a GSM module transmits this information via SMS alerts to registered contacts.
This dual functionality of detection and communication not only prevents potential accidents but also enables emergency response teams or family members to track the location of the impaired driver. The system provides a cost-effective, reliable, and scalable SMS solution for enhancing road safety. By combining alcohol detection with vehicle control and real-time communication, it contributes significantly toward reducing drunk driving incidents and promoting responsible driving practices
